This study aimed at finding out the metacognitive thinking level of university students due the variables of gender, academic achievement, academic specialization, type of college, family economic level, and parents’ level of education. It also aimed at investigating the level of metacognitive thinking of Al-Jouf University students in particular. The sample of the study consisted of (552) male and female students, who were selected from three different university colleges and responded to the metacognitive thinking scale. The results of the study indicated that there were no significant differences in the degree of metacognitive thinking due to gender, academic achievement, type of college, or parents’ level of education. Meanwhile, the study revealed that there were remarkable differences in metacognitive thinking due to the variable of specialization in favor of academic specialization and family economic level in the domain of organizing knowledge in favor of high economic level. Moreover, the study showed that university students have a high level of metacognitive thinking in the domains of scale and its total score. In light of the above results, the researcher concluded the study with some important recommendations. (Published abstract)
