The study aimed to examine the nature of relationship between irrational thoughts and social phobia among users of social networks of medical students. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the study followed the comparative descriptive method for examining a sample of 180 male students from Medicine college, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study tools included two scales of irrational thoughts and Social phobia, with consideration of the psychometric properties. The results indicated that the sixth idea (Anxious over concern), the fifth (Emotional – irresponsibility) and the fourth (Catastrophizing) were at the top rank among the students of social networks. The results also showed that there is a significant positive correlation between social phobia with both irrational thoughts and the number of hours of daily use, but there is no statistically significant correlation between the number of hours of daily use of social networks and the level of academic achievement among students who use social networks. The results also revealed that there are differences between expatriate and non-expatriate students of social networking users in social phobia and irrational thoughts in the best direction for non-expatriates. The study concludes with the possibility of Predicting social phobia through Irrational thoughts and the number of hours of daily use. (Published abstract)
