This study aimed at recognizing the degree of using the effective communication skills in teaching the developed English language textbooks in the intermediate stage, and discovering if there are statistically significant differences in the degree of using the study sample of the effective communication skills due to years of experience and educational level. To achieve this, the descriptive method was used, an observation sheet (instrument) have been designed including a list of the verbal and nonverbal communication skills. The instrument was applied after verification of the validity and reliability to a stratified sample consisting of (30) English language teachers of the intermediate stage in Makkah Almukaramah during the second semester the year of 1439 ah. The data were processed by using means, standard deviations, Kruskal Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test. The study accomplished a list of recommended skills of the effective communication skills English language teachers containing of (33) skills, divided into verbal and nonverbal for communication skills. The results revealed the degree of using verbal communication skills by the sample was medium in the skill of speaking; meanwhile it was weak in the skills of listening, reading and writing. On the other hand, the degree of using nonverbal communication skills by the sample was medium. The degree of use was weak for the skills in general, and there were no statistically significant differences in the degree of using the sample of the verbal and nonverbal communication skills due to the variables of years of experience and educational level. In the light of study results, the study recommended the use of the list of the determined skills of the effective communication skills for English language teachers to be a fundament. They can also be used for developing teacher preparation and in-service training to use the verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Moreover, it recommended developing language labs in the faculties of preparation for the sake of micro-teaching to be used by the teachers for practicing the effective communication skills in a proper way.
