The optimal investment in the research system inputs depends largely on the efficiency of the operational processes of research production and their ability to produce research outputs that achieve the desired research performance level. Thus, the present study aims at evaluating the efficiency of universities’ research production in the light of utilizing the techniques of data envelopment analysis method in evaluating the level of technical and scale efficiency of the study samples that represent a group of Arab and international universities and a group of Saudi universities. Based on the results of the data envelopment analysis, the level of the technical and scale efficiency of universities, the level of the targeted research performance, and the peer universities have been identified.
