The introduction and the research significance were reflected in the close relationship between the leadership trait in the character of a university professor and their relationship to the development of professional competence. The research problem was determined by the lack of knowledge about personal trait of leadership and its relationship to the level of professionalism among university professor as the fundamental motive to develop the educational level of the professor and the student, and the research aimed to identify the relationship of Leadership characteristics of a university professor with the level of occupational competence of a university professor at Kufa University. Regarding the methodology of the research, the researcher used the descriptive method with a survey because of its suitability to the research and the nature of the research. The researcher used two tools to measure (Personal leadership and professionalism). The data was processed statistically by using statistical Pouch (SPSS) to extract the search results. The results were analyzed and discussed and the researcher concluded that there was a significant correlation between the leadership character and the level of occupational competence.
