The aim of the research was to identify the effectiveness of the use of (PQ4R) Strategy in teaching social and national studies on cognitive achievement, and to develop some of the thinking skills of the third grade students. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher used the semi-experimental method. The research sample consisted of (64) students who were chosen deliberately from the 116th Intermediate School, Riyadh Education Department. By using SPSS statistical methods, the research reached the following results: 1) there were statistically significant differences at the level of (0.01) among the average scores of the students of the experimental group who were taught using the (PQ4R) strategy and obtained a general average (30.94), compared with the average (21.22) obtained by the control group students who were taught using the usual post-application method of the cognitive achievement test at each of its six cognitive levels: remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, composing , evaluation , and the test as a whole. 2) There were statistically significant differences at (0.01) between the average scores of the students of the two groups; the experimental group who were taught using the (PQ4R) strategy obtained a general average (53.50), compared with the average (39.41) obtained by the control group students who were taught using the usual method of the post application of structural thinking test at each of the four skills: fluency, impersonation , prediction, and the test as a whole. 3) The effectiveness of the (PQ4R) Strategy in increasing the cognitive achievement of female students in the experimental group, which obtained a general average (30.94) compared with the average (21.22) obtained by the control group. 4) The effectiveness of the (PQ4R) strategy in the development of the conductive (structural) thinking in the experimental group students. (53.50) compared with the average (39.41) obtained by the control group. According to the results of the research, the researcher presented a number of recommendations aimed at activating the use of the PQ4R strategy in teaching. The research suggested a number of appropriate studies in this field. (Published Abstract)
