The issues of the study are identified in the weakness of intermediate second grade students in comprehending critical listening skills, and the futility of prevalent teaching methods in developing these skills and the absence of a scientific study, to the researcher’s knowledge, based on a strategy of a combination between self-questioning and note-taking in developing critical listening skills among intermediate second grade students in Saudi Arabia. This problem can be addressed through answering the following main question: What is the effectiveness of a strategy based on a combination between self-questioning and note taking in developing critical listening skills among intermediate second grade students? The study aimed at exploring the effectiveness of the strategy based on a combination between self-questioning and note taking in developing critical listening skills related to inference, distinction, rhetorical listening, evaluation, judgment and all these skills combined. To achieve that, the researcher used the experimental method, and developed two tools: a list of critical listening skills necessary for intermediate second grade students, and a performance test. Two research materials also were designed: teacher's guide and student's guide. After verifying tools validity, the researcher ad - ministered them to the study sample con - siting of sixty-four intermediate second grade students. The statistical analyzes were carried out and the findings showed the effectiveness of the strategy based on a combination between self-questioning and note-taking in developing critical listening skills, with the experimental group students superiority –statistically- over the control group in all critical listening skills.(Published Abstract)
