The effect of place of residence (rural and urban), gender (male and female) on each of the high school students’ attitudes and academic achievement towards mathematics using two methods of scales rating. The sample consisted of (1421) student from the first grade students of secondary schools in Sharkia governorate. The researcher used mathematics attitude scale which is consisted of (40) item and the referential achievement tests in mathematics which is consisted of (38) item of the true and false test. Using the "T" test, the results showed that there is existence of statistically significant differences in the students' attitudes Likert manner and Thurstone manner in mathematics for place of residence and gender. Also there is existence of statistically significant differences in academic achievement in mathematics for place of residence and gender. (Published Abstract)
