Higher education institutions are characterized, at the present time, with many functions and aims. The more the higher education missions and functions are expanded and varied the more the decisions become numerous. To make successful university decision which works on developing higher education institutions and achieves their goals, it needs an entrance to work with the newest information about distinguished universities which could be done by benchmarking; benchmarking own possibilities and various types which work on collecting data and information on scientific and ethical basis, identifying successful experiments; that provides us with various alternatives; works on supporting university decision-making, developing institutional reality. This research aims to identify basis of benchmarking in higher education institutions, components of university decision-making, possibilities of benchmarking in university decision-making and constructing a suggested visualization for using referenced comparisons as an entrance to support university decision-making. To achieve these previous aims, the researcher has used descriptive analytical approach to describe and analyze the concept of benchmarking types, benefits, importance, applying procedures, affecting factors on its success higher education institutions, besides describing and analyzing the concept of university decision-making, its phases, advantages and obstacles; that’s to realize possibilities benchmarking in supporting university decision-making. The research has reached many results; the most important one is that referenced comparisons have advantages, possibilities and various types which work on supporting university decision-making and moving forward a better future for the university.
