TIMSS Advanced is an international study that provides information about the educational achievement of students in grade 12 mathematics and physics worldwide. The purpose of this paper was to study the alignment of the Lebanese national exams with the TIMSS Advanced framework in general as well as with TIMSS Advanced items derived from the TIMSS Almanac in particular. This paper then explored the alignment of the average percent correct items of the Lebanese students with the international average for each item. The document analysis method was adopted and the Porter alignment index was calculated each time. The results showed that the alignment index was higher when the grade 12 national exam was compared to the TIMSS framework content and cognitive domains in general than when it was compared to the TIMSS items in particular. The decline in the alignment index may be due to the lack of coherence between item types and domains. (Published Abstract)
