The use of cognitive tours via the web in the teaching of computer and its impact on academic achievement and the development of electronic communication skills at Qassim university students [Article]
This study aimed to identify the impact of the use of cognitive tours (web quest) in the teaching of computer and its impact on academic achievement and the development of electronic communication skills at Qassim university students. I have been using quasi-experimental approach based on the design of the experimental treatments (pre and post) to two groups (experimental and control group). The researcher built in achievement test unit (computer components) consists of 30 items of multiple choice according to the levels of bloom (remembering, understanding, application) in addition to the preparation of the measurement of electronic communication which consisted of two main dimensions skills (browsing and searching for information via the web skills, included 12 sub- skill – and skills to use communication tools synchronous and asynchronous, included 18 sub-skill), and thus ensure that the scale included 30 sub-skill; the validation study tools through a validity and reliability coefficients correlation coefficients, all of which showed the validity of the tools to be applied to the study sample, it was the achievement and measure application electronic communication skills pre- test application , a sample consisting of 64 study students from the department of special education own (third level) in the second semester of the academic year 1434/1435 ah, and after the end of the teaching unit using the web quest on the experimental sample was achievement test and measure application electronic communication skills post ,on experimental and control groups. To analyze the study data was used t-test for two groups (experimental and control), and the eta square to verify the impact of web quest use in teaching computer on the development of academic achievement among students of the study sample. As averages and standard deviations and t-test to see the direction of the difference and statistical significance in the measurement of electronic communication skills account, and the most important findings of the study include: results indicated the presence of a high positive impact of the use of the web quest in the teaching of computer on academic achievement and the development of the skills of electronic communication with the department of special education for students (sample). Based on the results of the study recommended researcher importance of using tours knowledge via the web (web quest) while teaching computer, because of its positive impact on academic achievement development and skills of electronic communication, as recommended by the need to incorporate this method in university education curricula and to move away from traditional teaching methods.
