Aim: The present study aims at recognizing the trends of the Egyptian college students towards political discourse of the political currents in the mass communication methods within the period from 25th January 2011 till 30th June 2013. Methodology: The current study is a descriptive study. Survey method was employed. Sample: The current study applied to a random sample of 440 Egyptian college students at the age from 18 to 22 years old from the students of Ain Shams University and Shorouk Academy. Tools: Questionnaires and interviews were used in the current study. Statistical analysis: Frequencies. Percentages, Man- whittny, Krusal wallis, Linear regression and ANOVA. Results: Results have revealed that 70% of the students are nonpolitically affiliated, while only 24.3% of the students belong to the civil wing, and 5.7% of the students belong to the Islamic wing. Results showed that only 8% of the students were members of a political party or movement while the rest 92% of the students were not members of any political group. Student’s trend towards the political discourse of the Islamic stream was negative with 85.7% while 13.6% of the students were neutral and only 0.7% of the students were of positive response. On the other side, there are 49.1% of the students have negatively marked the political civil stream discourse, 45% were neutral, and only 5.9% of the students were of positive response. There were statistically significant correlations between students’ identification and political trends toward the political discourse of the political currents. There were statistically significant differences between students’ political trends based upon gender, university and faculty. Recommendations: The importance of raising political awareness of the students is highly recommended. Activating social and cultural activities should enhance and empower the students’ identity. It is very important that different political currents review their political discourse and performance and start to adopt problem solving strategies instead of focusing on the ideological conflicts and marginal issues.
