كثيراً ما يتعرض طلبة المرحلة الثانوية إلى الإصابات والحوادث المختلفة التي تحتاج إلى عناية فورية وهذه المسؤولية تقع على عاتق المدرسين أولاً نظراً لتواجدهم المستمر مع الطلبة. لذا تم إعداد هذه الدراسة لتقييم معلومات واتجاهات مدرسي المرحلة الثانوية نحو الإسعافات الأولي. تم بناء استبيان وتوزيعه على 600 من مدرسي المرحلة الثانوية، واستعادة 551 استباناً مستوفيًا جميع الاستجابات ومناسبًا للتحليل. كانت الاتجاهات بشكل عام إيجابية ولكن المعلومات كانت منخفضة المستوى (نسبة الإجابات الصحيحة 52.2%). كانت نتائج الاختبار التائي المستقل تشير إلى أن مستوى المعلومات كان أفضل لدى الأشخاص الذين حضروا دورة تدريبية (التباين 22% باستخدام مؤشر مربع ايتا) ولدى مدرسي العلوم (التباين 3%)، أما الاتجاه العام فقد كان أفضل بدلالة إحصائية لدى المدرسين الأكبر من 30 سنة من العمر (التباين 15.1%)، ولدى المدرسين ذوي الخبرة التدريسية الأكثر من 5 سنوات (التباين 13.2%)، ولدى مدرسي المواد الأدبية (التباين 4%) ولدى غير الكويتيين (التباين 3%) ولدى الذكور (التباين 2.1%)، ولدى الذين حضروا دورات تدريبية (التباين 2%). ويشير ذلك إلى أن المعلومات لدى المعلمين بهذا الخصوص غير كافية والدورات التدريبية يجب توافرها بشكل أكبر. In Kuwaiti high schools, teachers are the primary providers of first aid. Given that over 40% of students in these schools are likely to suffer some injury in a year, this is a major responsibility. This study was designed to evaluate their knowledge of, and attitudes to, first aid. A questionnaire was distributed to 600 high school teachers, 551 of which returned responses; suitable for analysis. Responses were analysed using independent t-test, eta square index, and Pearson correlation coefficient after controlling for type 1 error using the Bonferroni approach. Results indicated that though attitudes overall were fairly positive, overall knowledge was low (52.2% correct answers). Independent t-test found significantly better knowledge in those who had attended a training course (22% of variance by eta square index), and in science teachers (3% of variance). Overall attitude was significantly better for teachers over 30 years of age (15.1% of variance), those with over 5 years teaching experience (13.2% of variance), arts teachers (4% of variance), non-Kuwaitis (3% of variance), males (2.1% of variance), and attendees at a training course (2% of variance). This shows that teachers’ knowledge is inadequate and training courses should be made more available and perhaps compulsory. (Published abstract)
