تهدف الدراسة إلى إظهار دور جامعة القدس المفتوحة في تنمية المجتمع الفلسطيني، وتوضح الظروف التي نشأت فيها الجامعة والتي كانت استجابة للتحديات التي يتعرض لها المجتمع الفلسطيني. كما بينت الدارسة الدور الفاعل الذي لعبته الجامعة على مستوى التعليم العالي في فلسطين ودور الجامعة في تنمية المجتمع الفلسطيني على المستويين الاقتصادي والاجتماعي، إذ جسّدت دورها في تعليم الكبار وتعليم المرأة وتطوير كفاءات الموظفين الفلسطينيين والمساعدة في تخفيف الأعباء المالية على الملتحقين بالجامعة. وكيف استطاعت الجامعة الوصول إلى المناطق البعيدة والنائية لتوصيل خدمة التعليم العالي في فلسطين، والكيفية التي استطاعت من خلالها الجامعة تحقيق مبدأ ديمقراطية التعليم بإتاحة فرصة التعليم لفئات الشعب كافة. This study aimed at manifesting the role of Al - Quds Open University in developing the Palestinian society. It also explained the circumstances in which the University was established to be a response to the challenges to which the Palestinian society was exposed. Moreover, it highlighted the effective roles which the University played at the level of higher education in Palestine and in the development of the Palestinian society at both the economic and social levels. In so doing the study pinpointed the role of the university in educating adults, women and developing the competencies of Palestinian employees. It, furthermore, showed how the University alleviated the financial pressure shouldered by the University enrollees. In addition, the study elaborated on how the University managed to provide higher education to all locations and areas in Palestine including the remotest ones. At the same time it elaborated how the University was able to achieve the principle of democracy of education through giving access to education to all Palestinians. (Published Abstract)
