يطرح هذا البحث قضية ترجمة الكتاب المدرسي والإشكالية المصاحبة لكل ترجمة، بين ترجمة حرفية لا تعبأ بثقافة المجتمع الذي تنقل عن لغته، وبين ترجمة معنوية فنية تركز على المضمون الفكري وليس فقط على القالب اللغوي وحده. ويرى الكاتب أن على مترجم الكتاب المدرسي أن يكون متبحراً، ليس فقط باللغتين المعنيتين بعملية الترجمة، بل وبثقافة وحضارة الشعبين اللذين يتكلمان هاتين اللغتين. وإلى جانب الإشكالية اللغوية والحضارية في عملية ترجمة الكتاب المدرسي ثمة إشكاليات معرفية وتربوية ونفسية وأيديولوجية بل وسياسية أيضاً، وصولاً إلى إشكالية الصور والإخراج الفني للكتاب المدرسي وتقادم مضمونه العلمي سنة إثر سنة. ولكن رغم هذه الإِشكاليات، فإن الباحث يخلص إلى وجود حاجة إلى الترجمة المدرسية في الدول المتأخرة علمياً إلى أن تصبح قادرة على التأليف والإنتاج العلمي بقوتها الذاتية. This study raises the issue of textbook translation and the problems associated with the method of translation, be it a literal translation that ignores the culture of the source language or a communicative interpretive translation that emphasizes intellectual content and not merely the linguistic framework. The study recommends that the textbook translator navigate, not only between the two languages concerned but also between the two cultures and peoples who speak these languages. In addition to the linguistic and cultural problems involved in textbook translation, there are cognitive, educational, psychological, and even ideological and political problems, as well as the problem illustration and layout and the lack of up-to-datedness of its scientific content year after year. Yet despite these problems, the researcher concludes that academically underdeveloped countries need textbook translation until they become autonomously capable of textbook development and scientific productivity.
