جاءت هذه الدراسة للوقوف على مدى قيام الجامعات السعودية بمسؤولياتها الاجتماعية، من خلال استفتاء 630 عضواً من أعضاء هيئة التدريس في الجامعات السعودية. ولتحقيق ذلك، صممت استبانة ضمت 34 عبارة، موزعة في خمسة محاور هي: التدريس والتعليم، والبحث العلمي، وحماية البيئة والمساهمة في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة، وتوفير فرص العمل والتدريب، والخدمات الاجتماعية والثقافية. وكان من أبرز نتائجها: أن الجامعات السعودية تقوم بمسؤولياتها الاجتماعية في المستوى الكلي بدرجة متوسطة، بمتوسط حسابي بلغ 3.19. وجاءت ممارسة الجامعات لمسؤولياتها في المجالات الخمسة منفردة، بدرجة متوسطة، وبقيم للمتوسطات الحسابية وقعت في المدى بين 3.36 و 3.01. وتبين أن متغير نشأة الجامعة متغير مؤثر في مستوى أداء الجامعات لمسؤوليتها الاجتماعية في المستوى الكلي، وفي كافة المحاور لصالح الجامعات قديمة النشأة. كما كان متغير التخصص متغيرًا مؤثرًا على المستوى الكلي للمسؤولية الاجتماعية للجامعات، وكذلك في محور التدريس والتعليم، ومحور البحث العلمي، ومحور حماية البيئة والمساهمة في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة، وذلك لصالح التخصصات النظرية. The current study was conducted to investigate the extent to which Saudi universities are committed to practicing their social responsibility. A survey comprising 34 items grouped into five sub-scales was administered to a population sample of 630 academic staff members working at Saudi universities in an attempt to identify their opinions vis-à-vis: 1) instruction and teaching, 2) research, 3) environment protection and sustainable development, 4) job opportunities and training and 5) community services. Findings revealed that Saudi universities practice social responsibility at a moderate level in general with an arithmetic mean of 3.19. The five sub-scales were also moderate with scores ranging between 3.36 and 3.01. Nevertheless, the establishment date of the institution variable seemed to have a higher impact on universities’ social responsibility practices in favor of older universities in general as well as in each of the five sub-scales. Additionally, the overall responses of faculty members were significantly associated with their fields of specialization in three sub-scales; namely, instruction and teaching, research and environment protection and sustainable development in favor of theoretical majors.
