هدف البحث إلى التعرف على فاعلية تدريس الأحياء باستخدام نموذج دورة التعلم ما وراء المعرفي في تنمية التحصيل وعادات العقل لدى طالبات الصف الثاني الثانوي بمدينة مكة المكرمة. وقد استخدمت الباحثة النسيم التجريبي المعروف بتصميم المعالجات التجريبية ذوات القياس القبلي والبعدي. وتألفت عينة البحث من طالبات الصف الثاني الثانوي، حيث تضمنت مجموعتين: المجموعة التجريبية (التي تدرّس وفق نموذج دورة التعلم ما وراء معرفي)، وعدد طالباتها 24 طالبة، والمجموعة الضابطة (والتي تدرّس بالطريقة المعتادة) وعدد طالباتها 26 طالبة. ولتحقيق هدف البحث أعدت الباحثة الأدوات الآتية: 1) اختبار تحصيلي. 2) مقياس التقييم الذاتي لعادات العقل. 3) بطاقة ملاحظة لاستخدام عادات العقل. وفي التنائج، فقد خلصت إلى ما يأتي: 1) وجود فروق ذوات دلالة إحصائية بين متوسطات درجات طالبات المجموعة التجريبية والمجموعة الضابطة في التطبيق البعدي للاختبار التحصيلي الكلّي ومستوياته المختلفة (التذكر- الفهم- التطبيق- التحليل- التركيب- التقويم) لصالح المجموعة التجريبية. 2) وجود فروق ذوات دلالة إحصائية بين متوسطات درجات طالبات المجموعة التجريبية والمجموعة الضابطة في التطبيق البعدي لمقياس التقييم الذاتي لعادات العقل وبطاقة الملاحظة لصالح المجموعة التجريبية. ومن توصيات البحث: تشجيع معلمي العلوم على أهمية تنمية عادات العقل للطالب من خلال استخدام استراتيجيات ونماذج تدريس، ولا سيما نموذج دورة التعلم ما وراء المعرفي. The researcher aimed at identifying the effectiveness of teaching biology using meta cognitive learning cycle model in developing achievement and habits of mind among second grade secondary students in Makkah. The researcher used the experimental design known as the extension of pre-posttest, control group design. The sample of the study consisted of second year secondary students in Makkah, which included two groups: the experimental group (instructed according to the meta cognitive learning cycle model), comprising (24) students. The control group (instructed with the conventional way of teaching biology) comprising (26) students. To achieve the aim of the research the following tools were designed by the researcher: 1) An achievement test. 2) Self- evaluation measure for habits of mind. 3) An observation checklist for the use of habits of mind. Research findings include: 1) There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and control group in the application of the achievement posttest with its different levels: (memory, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation) in favor of the experimental group. 2) There are statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and control group in the postapplication of the self-evaluation measure for habits of mind and the observation checklist in favor of the experimental group. Research recommendation include: Encouraging science teachers to develop habits of mind among students, by applying innovative strategies and models of teaching such as meta cognitive learning cycle model.
