تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إجراء مقارنة بين طلبة الجامعة في كل من سورية وبريطانيا في خمسة مجالات للرضا عن الحياة يغطيها مقياس الرضا عن الحياة المتعدد الأبعاد للطالب MSLSS وهي: الأسرة، والأصدقاء، والكلية، وبيئة الحياة، والذات، وذلك في ضوء متغيري الجنس والتخصص الدراسي. وسعيًا للوصول إلى هذا الهدف طبق المقياس بصورته العربية على عينة من طلبة جامعة دمشق (ن=616)، كما طبقت الصورة الأصلية لهذا المقياس على عينة من طلبة جامعة إدنبرة (ن=443). وقد أظهر تحليل التباين المستخدم في هذه الدراسة فروقًا دالة بين الطلبة السوريين والبريطانيين في أربعة مجالات. ففي حين أعطى الطلبة السوريون الدرجة الأعلى لمجالي الأصدقاء والذات أعطى الطلبة البريطانيون الدرجة الأعلى لمجالي الكلية وبيئة الحياة. بالفضل عن ذلك ظهرت فروق دالة بين طلبة الإنسانيات والعلوم في مجال الأسرة (لصالح طلبة العلوم) وفي مجال الكلية (لصالح طلبة الإنسانيات)، كما ظهرت فروق دالة في مجال الأصدقاء لصالح الإناث مقابل الذكور. ويقترح الباحث إجراء المزيد من المقارنات القومية والثقافية بين الطلبة السوريين وطلبة القوميات والثقافات الأخرى. كما يرى أن مقياس الرضا عن الحياة موضع الاهتمام جدير بالمزيد من الدراسة في البيئة العربية. The purpose of this study was to compare between Syrian and British University Students in five specific domains of satisfaction of life included in Multidimensional Students, Life Satisfaction Scale (MSLSS) which are: family, friends, school, life environment and self, in the light of gender and academic specialization. In order to achieve the objectives of the study MSLSS was administered to a sample of 616 Syrian undergraduates selected from Damascus University and 443 British undergraduates from Edinburgh University. Applying the analysis of variance, significant differences were found between Syrian and British students in four domains. That is, Syrian students gave the higher degree to the domains of friends and self, whereas British students gave the higher degree to the domains of school and life environment. Significant differences were also found between humanities and science students in domains of family (in favor of science students) and school (in favor of humanities students), and between male and female students in the domain of friends (in favor of female students). It is recommended that more research is needed to conduct cross-cultural comparisons between Syrian students and students of other nationalities and cultures. The satisfaction of life scale is worthy of further investigation in Arabic context. (Published abstract)
