AU - شربه، صلاح مهدي صاحب عبود AB - This research aims at measurement the readability of Arabic reading textbook of the first class of the secondary stage in Iraq, knowing the arrangement of the reading topics according to the level of their readability in the reading textbook, determining the effect of pupils gender on the level of readability and determining the correlation relation between the level of readability and the three chosen linguistic variables(the average of word length, average of sentence length and the ratio of words repletion). To achieve these aims the researcher has chosen seven different reading topics from the textbook of Arabic for the first class of the secondary stage. Seven reading topics from textbook is the sample of the research. These topics are taken from the beginning, middle and the end of the textbook. For the sake of measuring the readability of the reading topics, the researcher has peripheral ten tests of a (cloze) type. He did that by deleting the word of the ninth arrangement from each topic of the research sample topics. The average of the topic length is one hundred word and the number of the deleting word from each topic is seven words. On the light of the research results the researcher has recommended many recommendations and suggestions.
