AU - السعيدية، فهيمة بنت حمد AU - الظفري، سعيد بن سليمان AB - The study aimed to establish a theoretical model for the causal relationship between three variables of study: parental styles, learned helplessness, and academic achievement, and then examined the role of learned helplessness as a mediating variable, in determining the association between parenting styles and academic achievement. The sample included 645 10th grade students from Sultanate of Oman. The adolescents completed measures regarding their perception of parenting styles and learned helplessness. The path analysis showed a statistically significant effects of parenting styles on learned helplessness and academic achievement, and a statistically significant direct effects of learned helplessness on academic achievement. Moreover, the results showed that the learned helplessness mediated the relations between parenting styles and academic achievement.
