AU - القحطاني، نائلة معيض AB - The study examines the effect of the level of depression and the number of response alternatives on the psychometric characteristics of the loneliness scale, in order to determine the effect of the interaction of the different level of depression (no - average) and the number of response alternatives (five - four) on the psychometric characteristics of loneliness scale. Where the researcher chose randomly (90) female students from King Saud University Dir'iyya, from the bachelor's degree to the scientific and literary sections, the researcher was limited to (48) female students to achieve the current research goals. This was done after correcting the beck scale of depression. The final sample was (48) students divided into two groups equally; one had not depression and the other had moderate level. Using a scale of loneliness of the Russell two forms (five- four), and the loneliness measure of Ibrahim Qashqosh, and the beck depression scale. The results showed, the stability coefficient by split half reliability in the version- four- is a higher-than-version five- in the non-depressed group, reversing the other group. In validity, Pearson correlation coefficients are statistically significant, which tests the criterion-related validity between the two copies of the loneliness scale of Russell, and the loneliness scale of Ibrahim Qashqosh, indicated that the highest correlation coefficient was achieved by the- five - version of the group with no depression, while the highest correlation coefficient was achieved by the - four- version of the other group.
