AU - جعفر، زهرة موسى AB - The present paper aims at answering the following questions: 1) when does ideas - formation skill begin for children from (7,9,11) years old? 2) are there any statistical differences for this skill according to: age (7,9,11) years gender (male, female)? The sample of this paper consisted of 120 children (both male & female) at the primary school aging (7,9,11) years in Diyala provincial Baquba city for the academic year 2010-2011. The tool used to measure this skill consisted of three stories. The first story consisted of 6 questions, the second story of 6 questions and the third of 7 questions. The tool then consisted of (19) questions. The questions were of multiple choice items in the first & second stories while the third story included multiple choice questions and other questions which require answers from the child. The verifiability f the tool was checked through its face validity. The stability was checked through the retest and the stability coefficient was 0,80. By using the second test for one sample, analyzing the second variation and using Scheffe test for the various post test, the results were as following: 1) ideas - formation skill for children begin from the age of 9 years. 2) The cognitive growth with ideas - formation skill increase as the child advances in years, and this indicates the developmental course for this skill. 3) There is no difference between male & female in this skill.
