AU - المالكي، عوض بن صالح AB - The study aimed at identifying the types of metamemory strategies used by first secondary grade students in Makah and its relationship with their ability to solve verbal mathematical problems. The population of the study consisted of all first grade secondary students in Makah in the second semester of the academic year 1434-1435 AH. The two instruments of the study (metamemory strategies scale and a verbal mathematical problems test) were applied on a stratified random sample of 145 students. The results of the study showed that: The study sample rarely uses metamemory strategies, such as verbal expansion, image expansion, repetition, meaningful organization while learning and reviewing mathematics lessons. Weak mastery of first grade secondary students in solving verbal mathematical problems in a proper way. There is statistically significant direct correlation between the metamemory strategies and the ability to solve the verbal mathematical problems.
