AU - الحربي، إبراهيم بن سليم رزيق AB - The present study aimed to identify the levels of mathematical proficiency and reading comprehension among the third-grade preparatory stage pupils and the correlation between the mathematical proficiency and reading comprehension. The study made use of the descriptive method and the researcher developed two tests as instruments for collecting the study data: the first test assessing the level of mathematical proficiency and the other assessing the participants reading comprehension. The two tests were administered to a sample of (125) third grade pupils in Makkah Al-Mukarramah. The results of the study revealed that there was obvious weakness in mathematical proficiency and reading comprehension among the third-grade preparatory pupils and there was positive correlation between mathematical proficiency and reading comprehension. In the light of the results attained، the study recommended the importance of professional development among mathematics teachers in teaching mathematical proficiency. The study also recommended making use of appropriate models and strategies of teaching، which may contribute to the development of the dimensions of mathematical proficiency among learners and paying the due attention to the development of reading comprehension of learners as an approach for developing their skills and abilities.
