AU - Amer, Mona AB - This report provides an estimate of youth and adult participation in formal and non-formal education and training in Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia based on comparable labor market surveys data. On the one hand, the labor market data of the three countries considered allow measuring participation in formal education as defined by UNESCO. The results show that participation rates in education are relatively close to those of upper middle-income countries. In Jordan and Tunisia female participation in education exceeds male participation; in Egypt the gender gaps have been greatly reduced. However, in all three countries participation in education varies greatly according to the household level of wealth. On the other hand, the Egyptian, Jordanian and Tunisian labor market data sets do not allow measuring participation in training programs of all individuals regardless of their employment status, as defined by UNESCO. But they do however provide an approximation of participation in training programs limited to people in employment. The results show that at most 10% of those employed ever participated in a training program. (Published Abstract) http://search.shamaa.org/abstract_en.gif OP - 23 p.
