The population of the study comprises the second-year students at the intermediate schools for boys in the center of Al-Najaf Governorate for the academic year (2016-2017). Two sections were randomly selected from Imam Ali Intermediate School for boys (the sample of the study) to represent the experimental group (33 students) and the control group (32 students). Short story achievement tests were constructed by the researcher to be used as pre-test and post-test. A T-test formula for two independent samples is used to analyze the obtained data. The results show that group work technique is considered more effective, useful, and favourable to teach short stories than the conventional one.
