AU - حسين، هالة حجاجي عبد الرحمن. AB - No one can ignore the widely spread of social networking sites used by adolescents who are affected by their contents, spend long hours on them, and interact with and communicate others from all over the world. Thus, the family role has changed from providing children with food, residence, and clothing to affording religious, moral, and intellectual protection. The family must interact with its adolescents to solve their problems so they will not need to consult virtual sites that have strangers and maybe peers who lack experience or real motive to positively solve the problem which may affect adolescents' attitudes, principles, and values. This paper examines the family upbringing of adolescents under the pressure of social media and shows its obstacles. The study includes 100 parents of intermediate and secondary school students in Qena. A questionnaire has been used to show the realty of family upbringing of adolescents ranging between 15-18 years under the pressure of social media and its obstacles. The paper adopts the Analytic Approach and it finds that parents lack knowledge and awareness of social media content and its effects on their adolescents. It is also found that parents neglect answering their children's questions about fake electronic hobbies in social media. Parents’ ignorance of how to activate privacy settings of such sites also has been proven. All these factors lead to lack of proper care, attention, and protection of children from negative effects of social media. The paper strongly insists on the necessity of activating dialogue between family members, stopping domestic violence, and parents must be friends of their adolescents and know who their friends are.
