AB - The study aim to investigate the effect of using norm-reference evaluation in solving the problems of repetition of the high rate of failure in specific courses in the faculties of the University of Aden. The study sample comprised of students from both the first and fourth losers in specific courses of study repeated failure where the students at the end of each semester, and over several years, both in the faculty of medicine and health sciences, and the faculty of engineering / computer science, and the faculty of education chemistry. The study tool in the design of the standard of student achievement scores in the course in question, by converting raw scores to standard grades, and then re-evaluate the student, and make comparisons between their scores in the courses concerned depending on the type of evaluation used in the interpretation of their grades, and then take a decision on their success or their failure according to the distribution of students’ scores on the average of their peers. Results revealed a decline in average student achievement in general in the courses under study, and the low value of the standard deviation at the level of course, which indicates the lack of moderation in the distribution of students' grades, and there were statistically significant differences in the rates of students losers due to the quality of the user's evaluation. The results also revealed the possibility of the success rate of students losers according criterion-reference evaluation in force in the faculties of the University of Aden, which makes students fall prey to self-some faculty members, and the quality of the evaluation methods that did not exceed the construction of traditional methods. The study concluded that the more varied and colorful learning evaluating methods, the fewer degrees of error and closer grades observation of real grades in the evaluation process.
