AU - العريني، منى بنت حمد AB - This research aimed to identify the role of the teaching processes and variables associated with science teachers in developing ninth graders reading comprehension skills of chemical texts included in science textbook. Participants were three female science teachers from Riyadh and 69 female students from ninth grade. The researchers designed an observation tool to collect data, and a reading comprehension test was implemented as pre- and post-test. The results showed weaknesses in science teacher practice in the development of reading comprehension skills of scientific texts; also, the average of reading comprehension skills was less than 50% of the total test score. The study recommended paying more attention to student-centered strategies in science teaching that align with the new textbooks adopted from McGraw Hill. Educators should give more attention to preservice science teachers’ preparation programs and with in-service training programs that align with the requirements of the new science curriculum.
