تتناول الدراسة تقويم لمناهج وطرائق تدريس الجغرافية التعليمية في العراق من خلال إجراء مسح وجرد شامل للمناهج المعتمدة تدريسها من مرحلة التعليم الأساسي مرورا الى مرحلة الدراسات العليا لمعرفة مدى تأثر الجغرافية العراقية بالاتجاهات الحديثة التي يشهدها العلم وصولا الى تحقيق الهدف من الدراسة من خلال اعتماد منهج البحث العلمي لتقديم تحليلا منطقيا تقويميا للمناهج المعتمدة في الفترة المعاصرة. إن المشكلة الأساسية في المنهج، تكمن في تضيع الهوية الأكاديمية للجغرافية، فالجغرافية تبدو وكأنها تعنى بمواضيع متشعبة ومستقلة عن بعضها بعضا تمتد من الفلك الى الهلك دون ربط بين هذه المواضيع بشكل يسهل توزيعها على سائر الميادين العلمية، أن الجغرافية اذ تستعين بمعلومات طبيعية وإنسانية انما تهدف الى معالجة العلاقات المنسوجة بين الجماعات البشرية في تعاملها مع محيطها وفي تعاملها مع بعضها البعض. وجاء الهدف من الدراسة الى تقويم مناهج وطرائق تدريس الجغرافية للمراحل الدراسية من مرحلة الدراسة الابتدائية مرورا حتى مرحلة الدراسات العليا في الجامعات العراقية. The study deals with an evaluation of the curricula and methods of teaching educational geography in Iraq by conducting a comprehensive survey and inventory of the approved curricula taught from the stage of basic education through to the stage of postgraduate studies to know the extent of the influence of the Iraqi geography with the modern trends witnessed by science to achieve the goal of the study through the adoption of the method of scientific research To provide a logical evaluation of the curricula adopted in the contemporary period.
