This study aimed to identify the attitudes toward reading and their relationship to the educational level of parents and scholastic achievement. The study sample consisted of (839) male and female, from the tenth grade students in the Kasbah of Irbid. To achieve the study aims, a scale of attitudes towards reading was used. The results showed that the students' overall attitudes were positive. The results also showed a correlation between the educational level of the mother and father and the attitudes toward reading. Shifting the focus from non-university parents to university parents entailed a shift of the attitudes from the positive to the negative. The results also revealed a correlation between academic achievement in Arabic language and the attitudes toward reading. As we compared students with low achievement levels to students with average achievement then students with high achievement levels, attitudes shifted from negative to positive. The results equally revealed differences in attitudes toward reading attributed to gender in favor of females. (Published abstract)
