This study aims to explore the requirements for achieving professional development as perceived by faculty members, and to identify the challenges facing professional development programs. It also tries to get to positive opportunities to upgrade such programs. Descriptive approach was adopted. The study sample n=110 was randomly selected from faculty female members in Colleges of Education in Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University and King Saud University. Findings revealed a high degree of consent regarding professional development requirements with average 2.45. Dimensions were rated as such: teaching, societal responsibility, scientific research. As for the challenges facing professional development, results showed a high degree of concern 2.45. Lack of financial and moral incentives came in the foreground of challenges, then teaching load. A group of recommendations are cited. (Published abstract)
