The study aims at investigating the attitudes of students in the second cycle of the basic education in the Sultanate of Oman towards the civic engagement. It also aims to identify the effects of the variables of gender, the class and the governorate on this attitude. To achieve the aims of the study, the researchers applied the descriptive methodology where they prepared a questionnaire consisting of 73 phrases distributed into 4 main dimensions, namely: students’ interests in civic engagement, civic engagement that happened in the past, the role of schools in enhancing civic engagement and the expected civic engagement in the future. The validity and stability of the scale was approved by referees on the basis of measuring the stability factor of the internal consistency according to Cronbach alpha method which was (920). After approving the validity and stability of the scale, it was applied on the sample of the study which consisted of (1008) male and female students from the second cycle of the basic education schools in the governorates of Muscat, Al-Batinah north and Dhofar. The results of the study showed that the level of students reached (3.31), which was an average level. The results also showed that there were no differences of a statistical significance in the level standard (0,05=a) which was attributed to the social variable in the general average of the tool dimensions. In addition, the results showed some differences of a statistical significance in the standard level (0,05=a) among the classes in all dimensions for grades seven, eight and nine. In addition, the results showed some differences of statistical significance in the standard level (0,05=a) among the educational governorates in the general average of civic engagement for Al-Batinah north followed by Dhofar and Muscat.
