The current study aimed to reveal the requirements, the challenges, and the recommendations for improving the use of social media in the schools of Almazar Alshamali directorate from the perspective of the teachers. The study implemented the descriptive research on a sample of (200) male and female teachers. A questionnaire of 76 items divided into four main sections, in addition to two open-ended answer questions related to social media was distributed on the sample. The study found that the requirement elements of the educational process, the learning environment, and the school administration obtained a high degree with means of (3.63, 3.44, 3.66) consecutively. While the means for the school budget obtained an intermediate degree with a mean of (3.13). The results revealed that the challenge of using social media percentage is (80.7%). The study sample offered recommendations for improving the implementation of social media in education. These recommendations include redesigning a curriculum suitable for social media implementation, securing the constant internet availability in the educational environment, employing social media literate principals, providing adequate school budgets necessary for obtaining the technology. The results have revealed statistically significant differences in the requirements of the educational processes and educational environment based on the gender variable in favor of male teachers. However, these variations did not appear in the school administration requirement and school budget. The results have not shown significant variability in the requirements for using social media based on the educational level. The study recommends providing the requirements for using social media in the educational process, the educational environment, and school administration. (Published abstract)
