This study aimed at examining the relationship between self-control, optimism and pessimism. A sample of 71 students who study at the second and fourth years in different subjects at the faculties of Arts and Sciences was selected. The study used a criterion designed by Alaaddin Abdalkafi to measure the impact of interior and external self control. The study also used the Arabic list of optimism and pessimism designed by Ahmad Abdulkhaliq. The study found that there is no considerable differences between groups of students were used to measure external self-control, optimism and pessimism. It also showed that there is no significant relationship between the interior self-control and optimism; and between the external self-control and pessimism. Furthermore, the study revealed that there was a significant relationship between the source of self-control and the variable field of the study (Arts or Sciences). However, this variable has no significant influence on shaping students’ optimism and pessimism. (Published abstract)
