The present study aimed at determining the competencies of teaching recitation and recital of the Holy Quran to the students of teaching methods of Islamic Sciences in the Educational Diploma Program at Taibah University. Moreover, it aimed to identify the level of students in these competencies. The sample of the study was (30) female students. The research instrument was designed in a form of an observation sheet which included (18) competencies of mastering the recitation and recital of the Holy Quran and the competencies of the presentation of the Quranic text. To answer the research questions, percentages, frequencies, and means scores were calculated to find out the level of competencies of teaching recitation and recital of the Holy Quran. Additionally, the Kruskal-Wallis Test was used to verify the research hypotheses. The results of the study showed that the level of the competencies of teaching recitation and recital of the Holy Quran was at the medium degree in most of the competencies except the seventh and eighth which indicated weak degrees. The results also found that there were statistically significant differences in the level of the competencies according to the specialization in favor of the interpretive and reading specialization. Likewise, there were also statistically significant differences in the level of competencies regarding attending classes in memorizing the Quran in favor of those who kept attending Quranic memorization classes; while there were no significant differences in the level of competencies regarding the amount of memorization of the Holy Quran. Based on the results, the study recommends reviewing the Islamic studies program with regard to the recitation and recital of the Holy Quran by increasing the number of related courses. It is recommended to add co-curriculum activities in the Educational Diploma Program such as field trips to the school and the classes in memorizing the Quran to monitor the best practices in teaching the recitation and recital of the Holy Quran.
