This study aimed at identifying the difficulties faced by the basic students' learning the skills of reading and writing in Jordan from their teachers' point of view. The sample of the study consisted of male and female teachers of Arabic language who teach the basic elementary stage from the first grade up to the fourth grade of the Directorate of Education of Mafraq Borough: 37 males and 41 female teachers. The researcher prepared the study tool, a questionnaire, to identify the difficulties faced by students in the basic stage in learning the skills of reading and writing in Jordan from teachers' point of view, and it includes literacy skills. The final items of the questionnaire consisted of 38. The study reached several results. The most important of which were the following: the presence of statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α = 0.05) attributed to the sex, and the differences were in favor of females; and the absence of statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α = 0.05) due to the scientific qualification; and the absence of significant differences at the level of significance (α = 0.05) attributed to experience. The researcher recommended a number of relevant recommendations. (Author’s abstract)
