The aim of this study is to examine the extent social studies teachers in basic grades use information technology and communication, and to discuss the obstacles teachers encounter in utilizing technology in the light of some variables. Two instruments were used, a questionnaire which consists of 22 items and was distributed to 91 social studies teachers of public schools in Irbid District of Jordan. The questionnaire reflects the extent those teachers use information technology and communication. The other instrument is a questionnaire that consists of 33 items. It reflects what teachers think about the obstacles facing them to utilize information technology in teaching. The results show that teachers’ attitude is “moderate” toward their use of information technology and communication. The study reveals that there is no statistical significant difference in the degree social studies teachers’ use of information technology and communication due to the variables of the study. Finally, the study reveals a statistical difference to the obstacles teachers encounter when utilizing information technology and communication due to experience, gender, age, and specialization.
