This study tackles concepts of culture of peace in the syllabus (curriculum) of civic education of primary schools in Cote d’Ivoire since 1998. The study attempts to answer the major question: how sufficient is the syllabus of civic education for the materialization of concept of culture of peace in primary school education? This is done through investigation of vocabularies and peace values in books of civic education from level three up to level six; by analyzing and evaluating objectives, contents, pedagogy, available medium (means) of instruction and common methods of evaluation, in light of data collected by the researcher through a questionnaire distributed among the population of the study: teachers and headmasters of primary schools in Cote d'Ivoire. The study deals, in its theoretical framework, with the development of the concept of culture in western rhetoric as well as in Arabic language. It also deals with the concept of peace according to United Nations which was established for the enforcement of international peace and security, and has conceptualized the Islamic perception of peace culture. Rhetoric The study also tackles the definition of civic education, its importance and its role in construction of social values. It also deals with the empirical and contemporary conception of curriculum and the principles of elaboration curriculum. It also deals with geographical, demographical and education backgrounds of Cote d’Ivoire. It elucidates problems facing education in general; continuous strikes of education staffs, scarcity of incentives, different kinds of violence in schools, non-harmony between subjects, incoherence between practice and teaching, non-rhyme between contents of curriculum and Ivorian realities, insufficiency of basic infrastructures and low rate of success. The research comes about the following findings: Results show that basic principles of the concept of culture of peace containing in the curriculum of civic education of primary schools are mostly realized at an average and low degree concerning objectives. Results show that basic principles of the concept of culture of peace containing in the curriculum of civic education of primary schools are mostly realized at average and low degree concerning the contents. Results show that basic principles of the concept of culture of peace containing in the curriculum of civic education of primary schools are mostly realized at an average and low degree concerning methods of teaching. Results show that basic principles of the concept of culture of peace containing in the curriculum of civic education of primary schools are mostly realized at an average degree concerning activities and means of instruction. Results show that basic principles of the concept of culture of peace containing in the curriculum of civic education of primary schools are mostly realized at an average and low degree concerning methods of evaluation. Main Recommendations: It is imperative to improve the curriculum of civic education in such a way to strongly represent- materialize- concepts of peace culture vis-a-vis its objectives, contents, methods of teaching, means of instruction and methods of evaluation.
