The research aims to identify the most significant reasons for primary school students’ low academic achievement in mathematics. The perspectives of mathematics supervisors, at the Ministry of Education in the State of Kuwait, are assessed to better understand the causes of students’ declining mathematics performances and suggestions for improvement. After ensuring soundness of the research design, a randomized sample of 38 male and female mathematics supervisors was selected from the study population. This random sample constitutes 25% of-the original population. A qualitative methodology was employed to address the three guiding research questions. Research results indicate that the existing approach to professionally empowering mathematics teachers is weak. This result ranked first at a rate of 34.21%, representing one of the main reasons for low mathematics achievement among primary school students. The lowest ranking result, at a rate of 5.26%, was the family’s involvement in their child’s education. The research concludes with a list of practical recommendations for improving students’ mathematics achievements, applicable to all primary schools in the State of Kuwait. (Published abstract)
