The current study aimed to reveal the differences in the skill of emotional discrimination among individuals with autism spectrum disorder according to 3 variables: the level of functioning, gender, and age. The sample consisted of (55) autistic individuals (40 males and 15 females) from Al-Wafa Center for Autism and Al-Rashad Center for Rehabilitation and Training of the Bahraini Society for Intellectual Disability and Autism in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Two scales were used: screening tool for high functioning autism, and the scale of emotional discrimination. The results of the study showed that the skill of emotional discrimination among individuals with autism spectrum disorder is within the medium level, in additional to the emotional recognition dimension. The level of the perception dimension was low, and the dimensions of the emotional perception appeared between medium and low, where the emotion of joy, followed by the emotion of sadness were within the medium level. As for the emotion of fear and the emotion of anger were within the low level. Additionally, there were no statistically significant differences according to gender and age. The results also showed statistically significant differences in the total degree of the scale, the emotional recognition dimension, and the emotion of joy in favor of high functioning autism. Therefore, the current research recommended to improve the skill of emotional discrimination among individuals with autism using proper training programs. (Author’s abstract)
