هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة درجة امتلاك واستخدامات طلبة الجامعات الأردنية للهاتف المحمول، كما هدفت إلى الكشف عن وجود أية فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في درجة امتلاك واستخدام الطلبة للهاتف المحمول تعزى إلى متغيرات: الجنس، العمر، نوع الجامعة، نوع الكلية ومستوى البرنامج الأكاديمي. وقد تكونت عينة الدلراسة من 993 طالباً اختبروا عشوائياًّ من تسع جامعات أردنية، وكانت أداة الدراسة استبانة طورها الباحث لهذه الغاية. وقد أظهرت النتائج أن 87.2% من المستجيبين يمتلكون الهاتف المحمول، كما أظهرت فروقاً ذات دلالة إحصائية في امتلاك الطلبة للهاتف المحمول تعزى إلى متغيرات: الجنس ولصالح الذكور، والعمر ولصالح الفئات العمرية 24-26 و+27 ونوع الكلية لصالح الكليات العلمية، والبرنامج الأكاديمي ولصالح مستوى الماجستير. كما أظهرت فروقا دالة إحصائياً في استخدامات الطلبة للهاتف المحمول لأغراض شخصية واجتماعية تعزى لمتغيرات الجنس ولصالح الذكور، والعمر و لصالح الفئات العمرية 18-20 و+27 ونوع الجامعة ولصالح الجامعات الحكومية. كما كشفت النتائج عن فروق دالة إحصائياً في استخدام الطابة للهاتف المحمول لغايات تعليمية تعزى لمتغيرات الجنس ولصالح الذكور، والعمر ولصالح الفئات العمرية 18-20 و21-23، ونوع الجامعات الحكومية، ونوع الكليات العلمية. The objective of this study is to identify the ownership and usage of mobile phones among university students in Jordan. It also aims at revealing any significant statistical differences among students’ ownership and usage, which may be attributed to gender, age, type of university, type of college and level of academic program. The sample of the study consisted of 993 students chosen randomly from nine public and private universities in Jordan in 2006/ 2007. The instrument was a questionnaire developed by the researcher. Results show that 87.2% of the respondents own mobile phones. Significant differences are revealed among respondents’ ownership %=0.05 as attributed to the following variables: gender, in favor of males; age, in favor of 24-26 and 27+ age brackets, the type of the college, in favor of colleges of sciences; and the level of the academic program in favor of the masters level. Significant differences are also revealed among the respondents’ personal and social usages %=0.05 as attributed to the following variables: gender, in favor of males; age, in favor of 18-20 and 27+ age brackets, and type of university, in favor of public universities. Significant differences are also demonstrated among students’ educational usage as attributed to gender, in favor of males; age in favor of 18-20 and 21-23 age brackets; type of university, in favor of the public universities, and the type of college in favor of Colleges of Science.
