تناول هذا البحث الإعاقة الفكرية من حيث تعريفها وتصنيفها وحاجات أفرادها، وتعريف المهارات الاجتماعية ومكوناتها، والمهارات الاجتماعية عند ذوي الإعاقة الفكرية ونظريات التعلم وتطبيقاتها التربوية في مجال الإعاقة الفكرية، والفنيات التي تساعد على تنمية المهارات الاجتماعية، والكفايات اللازمة لمعلم ذوي الإعاقة الفكرية. انتهت الدراسة بتقديم عدد من النتائج، منها: تتأكد الحاجة إلى تنمية المهارات الاجتماعية لدى الأطفال المعاقين فكرياً فهم يعانون قصورا في هذا الجانب نتيجة الإعاقة، للمهارات الاجتماعية عدة مكونات ينبغي أن يمتلكها الفرد حتى يحسن التفاعل مع الأخرين والتعامل مع الأحداث والمشكلات التي تواجهه. This research dealt with intellectual disability concerning its definition, classification, and individuals' needs, in addition to defining social skills and their components, social skills among intellectually disabled individuals, and learning theories and their applications in the intellectual disability field, as well as the technicalities that help to develop social skills, and the necessary competencies for intellectual disability teacher. The study concluded many results such as: The need for developing social skills among intellectually disabled children as they are handicapped in this aspect due to their disability, and that social skills have several components that an individual should possess in order to improve interaction with others and dealing with incidents and problems that he encounters.
