The aim of the research was to investigate the effectiveness of problem-based learning strategy in teaching an educational unit from the subject of science of sixth-grade primary on academic achievement and motivation towards learning science among the sixth grade primary students in Riyadh, this research applied during the first semester for academic year (1437/1438h) (2016/2017) to achieve this, had been used the semi-experimental method, the study sample have been selected in intentional manner, and then were randomly divided into a control group (21 students) and an experimental group (22 students); the researchers prepared an achievement test and also used scale of motivation to learn about science which is prepared by Tuan, Chin and Shieh (Tuan, Chin, Shieh: 2005) after they Arabized and adapted it to the age level of students in the sixth grade in Saudi environment. To verify the hypotheses, the researcher used Mann Whitney test as an alternative to the t-test for two independent samples in order to clarify the differences between the experimental and control groups to test the achievement and measure motivation towards science learning. The most prominent search results were as follows: outweigh the experimental group students on the control group. In light of the search results, the researchers developed a number of recommendations including: functioning learning strategy based on problems in sciences learning and need to create an educational environment with a secure climate, reassuring students while learning science. Two researchers concluded suggesting to perform similar studies to investigate the effectiveness strategy teaching with different steps from what was used in this study. (Published abstract)
