هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى بحث أثر استخدام استراتيجية المناقشة الحرة على مهارة التحدث والدافعية لدى متعلمي اللغة الانجليزية كلغة أجنبية في الصف العاشر في الأردن, وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (50) طالبا في الصف العاشر الذين يدرسون في مدرسة الزعتري الثانوية الشاملة للبنين في مديرية البادية الشمالية الغربية خلال الفصل الدراسي الثاني من العام الدراسي 2017/2018. وتم اختيار هذه المدرسة لأغراض لوجيستية ، ويوجد ثلاث شعب للصف العاشر وتم تقسيم الطلاب الى قسمين: أ‌) المجموعة الضابطة: وتكونت من (25) طالبا ب‌) المجموعة التجريبية: وتكونت من(25)طالبا تم تدريس المجموعة الضابطة من قبل مدرس المادة بانتظام (باستخدام التعليم العادي) ، في حين تم تدريس المجموعة التجريبية من قبل الباحث باستخدام استراتيجية المناقشة الحرة. المجموعتين خضعت للامتحان القبلي من اجل تحديد المستوى الحقيقي لمهارات التحدث قبل تطبيق التجربة وتم جمع المعلومات وبعد 8 اسابيع المجموعتين خضعت لامتحان بعدي لملاحظة اي تغير حصل عند الطلبة ولأي مدى ولأي اتجاه عن طريق استخدام البيانات الاحصائية. استخلص الباحث بان المجموعتين تطورت لكن بشكل خاص المجموعة التجريبية واظهرت النتائج ان طلاب المجموعة التجريبية تحسنت لديهم مهارات المحادثة مقارنة بغيرهم . يوصي الباحث باستخدام استراتيجية المناقشة الحرة في المدارس الاردنية. This study aims to investigate the effect of using free discussion strategy on tenth grade EFL students’ speaking skills and motivation. The sample of the study consisted of 50, 10th grade students, studying at Alzatry Secondary School for Boys, at North-West Badiah Directorate of Education in Mafraq in the second semester of the scholastic year 2017/2018. This school was purposefully chosen for logistic purposes. At that school there were two/ 10thgrade sections: Section A( consisted of 25 students and it was chosen as a control group. Section B( consisted of 25 students and it was assigned as an experimental group. The control group was taught by the course teacher (by using regular instruction), whereas the experimental group was taught by the researcher by using free discussion strategy. Both groups sat to a pre-test to decide the actual level of both groups in speaking skills before applying the experiment. Data were collected within 8 weeks. After 8 weeks, students of both groups sat to a post-test to see if any change occurred, if it occurred to what extent, and in what dimension by using proper statistics. The researcher found out that both groups have developed their speaking skills but it was in favour of the experimental group. The results of that study have showed also that the experimental group students have developed in some speaking skills more than others. Accordingly, the researcher recommended using free discussion strategy at schools in Jordan. (Author’s abstract)
