This study aimed at developing critical reading skills among first year secondary stage students using POSSE (Predict, Organize, Search, Synopsis and Evaluate) strategy. Twelve critical reading skills were identified under three main skills: inference, discrimination, and evaluation and making judgments. A critical reading skills test consisting of 36 questions, i.e. three questions for each skill, was prepared. The study sample was selected from the first year secondary stage students at Banha Educational Administration. They were divided into two groups: an experimental and a control one. The results of the study revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental and the control group students in each skill of the post critical reading skills test and the test as a whole in favor of the experimental group.
