تتناول الدراسة عزوف استخدام طلبة جامعة الزرقاء الخاصة لمكتبة الجامعة، من خلال التعرف إلى مدى استخدامهم أو قلة استخدامهم إياها، وعزوفهم عنها. تكون مجتمع الدراسة من طلبة الجامعة وشملت العينة 700 طالب من مجتمع الدراسة، استجاب منهم 500 طالب أو 71.4٪ من مجتمع الدراسة. كشفت النتائج أن ما يقارب من ثلثي عينة الدراسة كانوا من فئة قليلي الاستخدام أو من غير المستخدمين، وأن هناك فروقا ذات دلالة إحصائية بين معدل عزوف الطلبة عن استخدام المكتبة تبعا لمتغيري الجنس والكلية، بينما لا توجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين متوسطات عزوف الطلبة تبعا لمتغير المستوى الدراسي. أظهرت النتائج عدة معيقات يشعر بها قليلو الاستخدام/ غير المستخدمين للمكتبة وتعيق أو تقلل من استخدامهم إياها، يتعلق أبرزها بعملية التدريس بالجامعة، إذ لا يشتمل المنهاج على محاور تتعلق بالمكتبة أو استخدامها، ولا تكلف الهيئة التدريسية الطلبة بالواجبات والبحوث التي تدعو إلى استخدام المكتبة. This study investigates students’ disinclination of using the library of Zarka Private University. It attempts to reveal the extent to which students use the library, and to cover the causes of students’ rare use to the library and their disinclination of using it. The population of the study consisted of all 5054 the university students. The sample of the study consisted of 700 or 13.9% of the population of the study. Five hundred 500 or 71.4% responded to the questionnaire. Findings revealed that about two thirds 327 or 65% were either rare or nonusers of the library. This finding provides a rationale for exploring students’ disinclination of using the university library. Findings revealed statistically significant differences the means of students’ disinclination of using the library attributed to the gender variable. Similarly, there were statistically significant differences in the means of students’ disinclination attributed to the students’ faculty variable. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the means of students’ disinclination attributed to the academic level variable. Also the study revealed the barriers which impede rare users and nonusers from using the university library. The most important of which are the exclusion of university syllabuses sections on the use of the library and faculty members do not give students assignments or projects which motivate them to use the university library. The study recommends that the university administration, the library administration, and the faculty members should raise students’ consciousness about the importance of using the library in developing their cultural, academic, and social levels. Besides, students should be encouraged to use the library to reinforce their free reading habits. Finally, students ought to be taught how to use the library through various activities such as lectures, symposia, programmes, and constructive contests. (Published abstract)
