The purpose of this study is to investigate what are the most crucial aspects that motivate students to enroll in the Department of Special Education in the College of Basic Education. Furthermore, the study explores the degree by which the differences in Motives occur according to gender, school year and type of secondary certificate. To achieve this aim a questionnaire was administered on students in the Department of Special Education in the College of Basic Education. The results of the study revealed that students’ Motives were high in all domains and that personal Motives scored the highest (67.45%) in all domains. Furthermore, there was a significant statistical difference in students’ Motives in favor of female students and there was significant statistical difference in students’ Motives attributed to the type of secondary certificate (Arts or Science) achieved, which was in favor of those who majored in Arts. Significant statistical differences showed that female and male students’ degree of Motives was in favor of fourth and third year male students than the rest of the students in the other years.
